How to Create Your Own Dogs Bed from Recycled Fabric
If you have just become a new dog owner or have brought a Rescue dog home then you will need some where for him/her to sleep.
Instead of going out and spending money on a new bed why not make one from your old blankets or curtain materials.
It can be easier than you think.
Things you will need:
Material - the amount will depend on the size of the dog. A medium size one would require about 2 metres.
Cut up old cotton Scraps: like old sheets into strips. Use soft materials if possible.
Sewing Machine: if you have one, if not, you could still make one by sewing by hand.
Cottons.
Scissors.
Instructions
- 1.To start with you need to cut out 2 pieces of material approximately a meter square. This can be cut from a warm blanket or a thick curtain.
- Sew around all 4 sides leaving about 3" on one side so you can turn it inside out.
- Now comes the hardest part. You have to stuff all those bits of soft material inside. Don't make it too hard. Make it so it will be comfortable for the dog to make a bit of a hollow in the center.
- When satisfied, sew up that 3" gap by hand to seal it up.
I used a velvet curtain on one side and a bit of upholstery on other side.
That's it all finished now let the new doggy try it out.
If you are more experienced, you could try doing one the same but make it bigger and then do the same as above except you sew about 8-10 inches in from edge.
Still turn it inside out, then stitch each side in from the outside folding raw edges in. Again. leaving a gap on 2 sides so you can force all the scraps in around the edge. Then hand sew those gaps up and now you are finished.
This one was made from Recycled Curtain Material
It is amazing what you can do if you try. Please post pics in the comments if you managed to make one.
